Makejoy is a custom content platform and digital tastemaker that encourages thoughtful consumer choices and quality over anonymity and quantity. In 2019 they published the book Toronto Makes.
Toronto Makes is a comprehensive guide to Toronto’s maker scene. It pairs stunning photography with smart and witty bios, offering readers a behind the scenes look at how the products they love came to be.
The Brief
Create a video series for the anniversary of the Toronto Makes publication for the Makejoy website and social media platforms. The series provides a sneak peek into the book and celebrates one of the makers within it. These engaging videos will tell a story, promote the book, and promote Makejoy as a platform for entrepreneurs.

My Take
When I started this project it was very open-ended and I was given a lot of creative control. The client had an amazing library of beautiful photography, and plenty of copy to grab from (an entire book), but otherwise no set-in-stone direction.
I used a combination of text animation, illustration, and photography to bring to life the book’s essence. I took this opportunity to flex my storytelling skills and orient the project in an upbeat and playful manner.
The result is an engaging and informative series that piques the interest of its viewer.
