BIA Video Series

Business Improvement Areas have brought communities together in Toronto for decades and have deep roots in Toronto’s history. The very first BIA was founded in Toronto on Bloor Street West in 1970.

Mount Dennis and The Beach BIAs, are two Toronto BIAs that undertook community development campaigns with the expertise of the Redbox Creative team. As a part of these initiatives, it was my role to conceptualize and create a series of videos for each BIA to be shared on their social media platforms.

The Brief

Create 2 videos for each BIA to share on social media and on the Redbox Creative website. The videos reflect and celebrate their neighborhood, promote a business within the BIA, and give a sense of community pride.

The Beach

The Beach is a historic Toronto neighbourhood that has long been a destination for those looking for a sunny day at the beach. Although it’s enjoyed longstanding popularity, the neighbourhood has seen a surge in tourism over the past 3 years. With this growth, The Beach Business Improvement Area has partnered with Redbox to breathe new life into their brand with a modern fresh look and feel.

The videos highlight the communities natural beauty by using lush scenic photography. The cheerful animation style and light-hearted music choice position The Beach as a friendly quaint neighborhood with plenty of charm. Showing off their brand refresh; I created a logo reveal with their updated logo as well as, playful kinetic type animation for the new slogan and tagline.

Mount Dennis

Mount Dennis is a small neighbourhood that is undergoing some big changes. Where the prominent Kodak Factory once stood will soon stand one of The City's largest transit hubs. This is set to bring new life to the area and with this redevelopment, Mount Dennis Business Improvement Area is looking to shape the district into a vibrant and welcoming community.

Mount Dennis is one of the most culturally diverse neighbourhoods in the city. Although it is a small — often forgotten — neighbourhood amongst Torontonians, it has a lot of culture and authentic charm. Portrait photographs of residents and business owners were an essential part of the videos, to show that the heart of the community truly comes from the people who call it home. I used a vibrant color palette, heartwarming images, and clever animations to make Mount Dennis inviting and lively.
